Exemplary families sought for unique award

If you know of an exemplary family in Central Indiana, Family Service wants to hear from you.

Family Service of Central Indiana, Inc., the oldest social-service not-for-profit organization in Central Indiana, is accepting nominations for the annual Alice M. Ross “Salute to Family” award that recognizes exemplary families from the community.

Every family has the potential to be exemplary. Often characterized by togetherness, communication, and commitment on a day-to-day basis as well as perseverance and flexibility in the face of challenges, exemplary families can be traditional or non-traditional in nature and include blended, extended, adoptive, and foster families.

“The Alice M. Ross ‘Salute to Family’ Award is such a positive experience for everyone,” Family Service President Edie Olson said. “It engages the entire community in celebrating successful families and also encourages individuals to reflect on ways they can strengthen their own family.”

For a family to be considered for this award, nominations must be submitted by Feb. 28 to Family Service (Attn: Salute to Families Awards Committee; 615 N. Alabama St, Suite 320; Indianapolis, IN 46204). Nomination forms are also available online at www.family-service-inc.org/events/award.asp or by contacting Mike Runestad at 317-634-6341 x 135.

Any member of the community may nominate a family they admire, and families may nominate themselves as well. Families may be contacted for additional information or for a follow-up interview with a Family Service staff member.

The award-winning family will be publicly recognized at “Salute to Families,” presented by United Water. This annual breakfast is scheduled for April 21 at the Union Federal Colts Complex ( 7001 West 56th Street) and will raise support for and awareness of the many programs of Family Service. The award recipients and the nominator will be provided with complimentary tickets.
